This past Spring Break (March 2011) we went to Lake Powell AZ/UT and rented a houseboat. I will tell you that not a lot of people think Lake Powell when it comes to Spring Break, but for us it was PERFECT. From what I've been told, Lake Powell is crazy busy in the Summer. When we went in March, we felt we had the lake to ourselves. We went hours without seeing another boat. I supposed Lake Powell in March could be a bit risky with a chance of snow in the high desert, but we were fortunate to have 60 degree weather for our 4 days on the lake. Another big advantage of going to Lake Powell during Spring Break is the boat rentals are significantly reduced 50%. Be sure to find the take50 promo code if you make reservations on the internet.
This is the 46 ft Expedition. The expedition fleet is about a year old so it was super clean and comfy.
The scenery everywhere was absolutely beautiful.
Gunsight Butte.
With the encouragement of a friend, we went down the slide into the 50 degree water. My son was a little shocked.
This is the Antelope Canyon on the Navajo Indian Reservation. It wasn't at all what I expected. I was expecting a couple mile hike through the canyon and along the way I would pull out my camera and try to get some good photos in the "auto" mode. What it turned out to be was more of a lesson on photography and a few hundred yard hike through the canyon. My family of four had a Navajo guide who showed me how take full advantage of my camera's manual settings and take some awesome pictures. The guide was super knowledgable on all kinds of cameras and taught me how to use my Canon 40D SLR. I kept asking him to just take the pictures for me, but he refused, and kept showing me how to use my camera....which I am now super grateful for.
